FLASH named American Atheists Local Partner

by Ken Loukinen on September 15, 2011

FLASH has recently reinforced their relationship with American Atheists by becoming a Local Partner. In 2006, FLASH became an American Atheists Affiliate. Thanks to all it’s hard work and innovative projects from the FLASH members, it was named Affiliate of the year in 2009. As a local partner, FLASH takes the next step, becoming one of the first Local Partners in a new program.

What does this mean to FLASH?  As a local partner, FLASH will receive special attention and effort from American Atheists including:

1) Local regional conventions (RAMs), coordinated by our new Local Partner  Liaison Stuart Bechman. These events, sponsored by American Atheists  (including advertising), will be geared toward helping the LP grow its base and  bank accounts.  We plan to have 2-3 such events per year. Ours will be this Dec.

2) Mic time and free tabling at RAMS and National Conventions (within 100    miles)

3) Spotlighting in American Atheist Magazine and on the web site, with our  endorsement.

 4) Deep discounts on books and clothing which can be sold at a profit.
 5) Cheap or free speaking engagements from our Speaker’s Bureau.
In order to qualify for this program, organizations must fit all the requirements for the affiliate program with the following additions:

   A) An LP must perform some kind of activism on a regular basis. This may include letter writing campaigns, street fair tabling, protests/rallies, or anything else that increases awareness of the issues facing atheists. Organized activities that do not raise awareness of these issues (street clean-up, blood drives, etc) are admirable, but do not qualify for this program.
   B) An LP must be proud of their relationship with American Atheists, and identify themselves as such on their web site and all press releases (“Today, the Cranford Atheists, a Local Partner of American Atheists, launched a campaign…”)
   C) Must be in existence for more than two years,
   D) Must accept dues,
   E) Must have at least 5 members who are members of American Atheists.
The program costs nothing, is non-exclusive, and creates no legal linkage between organizations.  All Local Partners remain completely autonomous.  For more information, contact Stuart Bechman.
