FAQ
What does FLASH stand for?
FLorida Atheists and Secular Humanists.
This is the name that our members voted for in August 2008 to replace the original Atheists of Broward County, although our non-profit status will continue to be registered under Atheists of Broward County, FL.
When does FLASH meet?
Members currently get together each week for free-thought socials in different locations in South Florida:
The original group, Ft. Lauderdale Community, meets every Tuesday at the Geronimo’s at 3528 S. University Dr. in Davie.
The North Miami Community, meets every other Monday at Dennys at 1450 Miami Gardens Drive, North Miami Beach, FL.
The Boca Raton/Deerfield Beach Community, meets every Wednesday at Starbucks, 4425 Lyons Road Coconut Creek, FL.
Palm Beach North Community, meets on Wednesdays at Palm Beach Ale House – 2161 Palm Beach Lakes Blvd., West Palm Beach.
All socials start at 7pm.
In addition to the meetups, we also have other social and educational events throughout the year that are open to the public. Please check our Calendar of Events for the most current information.
Are there membership dues?
All free-thought socials are free and open to the public. However, joining as a paid member is strongly encouraged and offers a “member rate” for other events. We rely on the support of our members to make our group as dynamic and active as possible. Only paying members are able to vote in board member elections and on other issues that affect the organization. Click here to Join FLASH
Current membership dues are as follows:
Individual: $45/year
Family (2 or more in a household): $50/year
Retired/Student: $40/year
Monthly Supporter: $10/month
You can choose to become a lifetime member with a one time donation of $1500.
Are dues tax deductible?
Yes. As a 501(c)(3) charity, all dues and donations are tax deductible.
Are children and teens allowed to join FLASH?
We encourage skeptics of all ages to join our community. Many of the events we schedule, such as museum trips, picnics and charity work, are ideal for families to participate in. Children and teens are welcome at all ABC events unless otherwise noted, but they must be accompanied by a parent.
FLASH parents is geared for families with young children
Why are some members known only by their first or last name and/or have their pictures blurred?
While all members of FLASH are proud to be free-thinkers, not all are free to express their disbelief. We respect their positions, and in order to protect their privacy and security we have abbreviated their names and/or obscured their pictures.
